importing and flipping an stl cgal assertion error no top level geometry to render

terramir
no top level geometry to render displays in f5 but not f6 :(
and it does this with both import and import_stl

code:
translate([0,0,20]) rotate ([0,180,0])
import("herringbonegearsmall_fixed.stl", convexity=40);

now if I remove the convexity I get the following error :
Parsing design (AST generation)...
Compiling design (CSG Tree generation)...
DEPRECATED: The import_stl() module will be removed in future
releases. Use import() instead.
Compilation finished.
Rendering Polygon Mesh using CGAL...
CGAL error in CGAL_Build_PolySet: CGAL ERROR: assertion violation!
Expr: check_protocoll == 0
File: ../libraries/install/include/CGAL/Polyhedron_incremental_builder_3.h
Line: 198
PolySets in cache: 207
Polygons in cache: 14671
CGAL Polyhedrons in cache: 168
Vertices in cache: 17859
Total rendering time: 0 hours, 0 minutes, 0 seconds
WARNING: No top level geometry to render

Hi Terramir

Thanks for the bug report. Do you have a link to the STL?
