how join parts?

oda
Hi,
I would like to ask you a tip on how to draw parts for joining pieces.
If I have something big to print ... how do I design the parts to fit the
various parts?
any advices? which shape?
Thank you in advance,
Oda

Re: how join parts?

codifies
my experience with printing (and I assume you're talking about 3d
printing) is then its not
just the machine but not surprisingly the material which has an impact
on tolerances
(using someone else's designs will odds on often need some kind of
modification)

This means printing a number of sample links with the male and female
parts seperated
by different tolerances till you get something that fits easily without
too much slop
(although for this application some play isn't going to matter)

There are many types of possible connector shape, but the one typically
used in for example
the wooden train tracks

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2053587.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xwooden+train+track.TRS0&_nkw=wooden+train+track&_sacat=0

which is just a simple circular (are spherical) male shape, with the
corresponding female shape cut out of the other piece - obviously the
various boolean operations of OpenSCAD (especially difference
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/OpenSCAD_User_Manual/The_OpenSCAD_Language#difference)

if you don't have too much experience with openSCAD I'd highly recommend
you try out every bit of example code
in the manual and modify and experiment with them....

Enjoy!
Chris
