hidden 3d wireframe

Tim Schmidt
I find myself wanting to generate hidden 3D wireframe renders of
OpenSCAD models, for a project.

An example: http://www.cocreateusers.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1668&stc=1&d=1269251284

As you can see, it's a wireframe, in which portions of an edge which
would normally be occluded from the camera's view are subject to a
different alpha value than the rest.

Any ideas?

I'd love that sort of thing.

At the moment I use Blender with Pantograph which only works for Blender 2.49.

Moreover, the Pantograph download is no longer in operation (I get a
403 HTTP Error).

However, I do have the python scripts so I can email them to you on request.

But, while Pantograph works fine for small models, some of the bigger
models crash it.

The generated output is an SVG which can be converted to DXF by Inkscape.

If anybody is interested in hidden line removal, I found a hack of the
Pantograph python libraries and installation instructions (for
Windows) here:

http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/showthread.php/8086-Beta-Blender3D-renderer-for-ILD-S%C3%94S

The thread was started in 2009, but does have entries from May, 2012,
some of which are contributors indicating that they are working on an
update for Blender post 2.49, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
