bug with polygon points in close proximity

Brad Pitcher

Hey guys,

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but openscad crashes when I try to preview the following extruded polygon.

linear_extrude(height=2) polygon(

points=[

[0, 0],

[1, 0],

[1.0014, 1],

[1, 1],

[0, 1]

],

paths=[[0,1,2,3,4]]

);

I think it must be due to the proximity of the 3rd and 4th point, because if I change x in the 3rd point to 1.0015 it works just fine. The difference in x between the two points can't be smaller than 0.0015 or openscad will simply crash with the message "Abort" on the console. So does anyone know if this is a bug, or do I need to find a workaround?

I am using OpenSCAD 2011.06.14.

Thanks, Brad

Thanks for reporting this. This was a bug and it has now been fixed. Sources are up at github.
I'm building a new development binary for Mac OS X as we speak.

Is this the same bug that causes tiny circles to crash?

It appears to be.
Note that tiny circles will just be silently removed, so they cannot be used for any crazy minkowski or hull schemes.
