STL Marketplace

Jesse Guardiani
Hello fellow OpenSCAD users,

I bought a 3d printer recently (a Printrbot Plus v2) and immediately noticed that Thing-i-verse was cool, but that there was no commercial marketplace where I could upload my STL files and sell them to other people who needed/wanted them.

I decided to refactor my company website to fill this niche. Check it out and please upload some STL files. It's free to list an STL file, and you make 70% commission on any sales. Win-win.

http://www.createthis.com/sell

P.S. I love OpenSCAD. Boolean operations have always been my preferred CAD technique since I learned on Microstation, AutoCAD, and Ideas back in 1998. As a programmer, I think OpenSCAD is just awesome.

Thanks,

I am pretty sure that's wrong. I remember grabcad offers this, and a few others. As a developer, STL is totally useless to me and I would rather have .scad files, or BRLCAD .g databases. It's like selling precompiled binaries. :-(

Hey Bryan,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at grabcad. I wasn't aware of that.

I'm not opposed to uploading and selling .scad files. A file uploaded as a .scad file could be offered as an STL download automatically for those who are interested. I'm really just interested in creating a marketplace where people can make a little income from their CAD efforts.

Here's an example part that I uploaded as a .scad file: http://www.createthis.com/products/impala-heater-knob-scad

Hi Jesse

That's a nice site - I was just in the process of adding this functionality to my own site: http://www.fabfabbers.com/models/

However, I've not done it yet, because currently people can only add models from GitHub (and thus noone would pay).

Also, I was thinking of having a 'basic' mode for my OpenSCAD page: http://www.fabfabbers.com/openscad/

Such that novice users could customise models just using drop down options, etc.
