BTW, I would much prefer a forum to a mailing list.

I also would like to suggest a forum. I'd like to be more active here, but it is surprisingly difficult to respond to mailing list messages from Gmail if you have selected the "digest" option for notifications.   I'd even volunteer to help with the moderator work for such a forum.

I'll also go so far as to kick in (some) cash to help pay for it.

You should be able to just route them all into a single separate folder
in Gmail abd you can then read it as if it were a forum. In fact if you
are forum obsessed you can gateway it into some kind of forum software
and pretend 8)

http://forum.openscad.org

It's not 100% set up yet as it requires registration both for the mailing list and forum, with a separate forum moderation, but it should be possible to configure it to be more automatic..

There is also a new OpenSCAD subforum on the RepRap forums:

Forum or mail - it does not matter. What is irritating is if BOTH are
used, then I need to monitor two places for news (or some form of
feed/convert stuff to merge them.)

This is why I like google groups. You can use it as either one by subscribing by email or using the web interface.

I'll second Google Groups. It doesn't get much more brain dead simple than that.

I'll also go ahead and invite everyone to the OpenSCAD forum on my site: http://www.createthis.com/discuss/forums/openscad-discussion

It's been live for a whole three hours as I post this. It's a bit more limited than traditional forums (for example, no image upload, yet), but maybe it can serve as a hub for commercial OpenSCAD interests.
