I make it 13k by google uk search results' proportion ~ Autocad,
estimating 8 million users, 85 million results x OpenSCAD 141k
results.

Not exactly scientific. I think you'd need to know things like the Ubuntu
install count to get any feel.

Not that userbase is always the guide. There is a very famous story about
"make" and the distinction between tabs and spaces in Makefiles. It was
realised quite soon that this was a mistake. By then however it had an
established userbase so they decided not to change it. At the time that
userbase was about ten - today we are still stuck with the consequences 8)

To some extent. Firstly you can make statistical measurements off mirror
traffic and secondly several distributions collect statistical data
providing the users have not decided to disallow this.

Debian publishes theirs

including breakdown. Ubuntu doesn't have any online breakdowns you can
trivially link to but has popcon.ubuntu.com if you want to dig.
