New website

Hi all,

I've just published the new OpenSCAD website at http://openscad.org, see short release statement here: http://www.openscad.org/news.html.

Everything is redone, and some things might be wrong/missing, so any feedback is welcome.
Since the website itself is a github repository, it's also possible to suggest changes in the form of patches or pull requests :)

Cheers,

 -Marius

Re: New website

Torsten Wagner
Hey Marius,

congrats on the new website. Just recently I thought openscad is one of the few projects which really could benefit from a little bit more polished website.
I guess, some potential openscad users just might be turned down by the old webpage. It was a bit difficulte to distinguish it from some of those dead single person project-sides which are around on the net for decades.

It simply didn't reflect the activity and user-base of openscad. Therefore, thumps up for this great improvement.

Greetings
Torsten

CC. And before someone starts flaming, I find pure HTML pages not ugly. However, an active project should reflect it's activity by using "state-of-the-art" web-content. Beside of that a CMS its much easier to maintain once it's up and running.

Re: New website

Beautiful job on the new website! I especially like that the forum is now readable.

One suggestion: maybe pick a cooler show-off image for the front page than the old box fan. That thing makes it look like OpenSCAD can only model super blocky things, but we have plenty of examples of very precise engineering now.

Also, the gallery links to Thingiverse is a great idea, but it seems to be stuck (most recent entry is from April 24th). I'm guessing it was intended to grab the most recent things tagged with openscad, right?

Yes, I want to collect a few representative examples and rotate through them.
I'm not set on showing the GUI, but though it would make sense as a first impression.

Yes, again, it's a work in progress. I cache a json file from the Thingiverse API locally, but haven't yet set up a job to pull it regularly.
Also, I'm going to set up a few collections on the openscad account on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/openscad/collections), and show the models from those collections first, then show the search result below.

so, if you have any good examples , for both purposes, I'd be interested!

Cheers,

 -Marius

feel free to grab whatever you like from my thingiverse account ( http://thingiverse.com/triffid_hunter/things ) with attribution, I'm sure emmett would be happy to showcase some of his amazing works too!

I only just realised this site was here when I started getting referals to FabFabbers.com

Thanks so much for the reference!

Also, really nice looking site - very clean, big improvement on the previous one.
