Hologram as 3D preview?

William Adams-2
Anyone looking into using one of these:

as a 3D preview for OpenSCAD?

Pretty pricey, but anything 3D image related seems to be that way. "No face-hugging VR" for me! Alien, the movie, is 40 years old this year. That's the only face-hugger we need.

But seriously, folks, there's a fork out there for anaglyph viewing of OpenSCAD that appears to have stagnated since 2015. Cheap red/blue paper glasses and 3D images. Even Descent from the DOS days had anaglyph and Minecraft supports it.

If someone ported OpenSCAD to Vive, I'd have an excuse to go full face-hugger, though.

That looks really nice indeed. But after just having
a quick look at the web site, it's not clear to me
if it does require special support from the application.
As they do provide a number of SDK things, it does
look that way. There's even a closed beta version of
a C/C++ SDK but the notes I found hint that it's probably
not going to be compatible with open source applications.
So that pretty much rules it out in the near future.

If nobody helps pushing things forward, they tend to get
stale after a while. Sadly there's a number of things in
that state, but there's no other solution than someone
taking the time to discuss open issues and follow up on
them.

Vive SDK seems incompatible with open source too. Not
sure if the Vulkan related work regarding VR will solve
that. So far all the Vulkan stuff is very friendly to
open source applications, giving at least some hope :-).
