Gears not showing up on render and not working with difference()

Hi all,

I've been using this gear library
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5505

and just recently when designing a planetary gear set, I noticed that when using difference with a gear and cylinder to make the ring gear it did not work correctly at all on preview. I tried to render the result and realized the gear was not showing up, then I tried to just export the gear as an stl and got the following "Current top level object is empty.".

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, if it helps, I'm using the openscad available to download from the website which is marked as 2015, I've been looking around for newer versions but have only seen mentions of them at best.

I've found a bit of a hack solution, for some reason the code I'm using to generate gears does not like a bore of 0mm (no bore), so adding a tiny bore to each gear fixed this problem. The issue of weird subtraction I got around by also subtracting a cylinder with the same radius as the inner radius to get rid of some of the artifacts left behind (looked sort of like propeller blades).
