Editor with tabbed files?

naviathan
I don't know why, but for some reason I thought OpenSCAD had a tabbed
interface for opening multiple files in a project. Was this a feature in the
past or in a newer version that I'm just not seeing?

You can certainly open multiple windows.  (Looks like you have to enable it at Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Allow opening multiple documents.)

On Windows I prefer Notepad++ for editing. All sorts of features that it wouldn't be worth incorporating into Openscad.

Well, maybe not OpenSCAD, but it might be worthwhile for someone to invest the time into creating a sort of IDE for it. I found eSCAD (eclipse plugin for OpenSCAD) but I can't seem to get it to show up as an available project.

I’m just coding in Visual Studio Code with the OpenSCAD plugin. I have OpenSCAD running and monitoring that file and updating any time there’s an update.  It’s running on another computer but that’s not necessary.

Re: Editor with tabbed files?

My buddy keeps trying to get me to use Visual Studio, but I just can't get past the lack of cross platform support. I like my Linux servers and ultralite notebooks.

Re: Editor with tabbed files?

Well, you’re in luck.  It’s cross platform. Runs Mac, Linux and Windows.

SublimeText is also wonderful (and cross platform) but VS Code has been my favorite recently on my Mac.

VS Code has nothing to do with Visual Studio except both
are from Microsoft and share part of the name to confuse
people.

It's based on Electron and compares much more to Atom
than anything else.

AFAIK it's free and open source, so not harm in trying
it out, I guess...

ciao,
   Torsten.

Yeah, I was just reading that. I'm not a fan of Atom and the like. I've tried quite a few editors, but I keep going back to Eclipse for C/C++ and notepad++ web dev.
