3D mouse support for openscad?!

Torsten Wagner
Hi,

I got my hands on a 3D connexion mouse and was wondering if someone of you got this working with openscad und Linux.
It seems to work under Linux as a normal mouse already, thus, I think it might be rather simple to make it work as a 3D mouse.
In general it might be a nice idea to allow users to map mouse and keyboard events to certain openscad functions.

Any ideas?

Greetings

Torsten

Yes yes yes PLEASE! :)
I live my space navigator in sketchup - it's like moving an actual object around.. Very nice - I'm missing it now that I've switched to Linux and leaving sketchup behind.

Re: 3D mouse support for openscad?!

Hi,

unluckily the space navigator seems not to send any special events with the kernel standard drivers. It simply gets recognized as mouse.
There is a opensource driver as well, I will test if this will send certain distinguishable events. If so, I guess its rather simple to add support to openscad via a config file which maps functions towards certain events.

I also try to contact the original developers of the opensource drivers to learn how to implement those natively in an application.  As far as I can see they only support blender at the moment.

Greetings

Torsten

Anyone got 3D mouse to work with openscad under windows?
I have space pilot and I see lot of app support for it .. same driver for
- SpaceExplorer USB
- SpaceMouse Pro
- SpaceMouse Wireless
- SpaceNavigator
- SpaceNavigator for Notebooks
- SpacePilot Pro

might be a worthy cause :D

I read that "if they are sending special signals it should be easy to add to openscad config" - I don't see any config that comes with windoze binary? Any pointers?

Hi all,
I have just published a reasonably crude, but working OpenSCAD driver for the space mouse.

Hmm, not much progress with that lately, but maybe we can
think about including it to get feedback. I guess it needs
quite some real-life testing on various machines/platforms.

ciao,
  Torsten.

As a preference/feature, yes please.

The only issue I had was sometimes a slight 'drift' when in neutral position, it just needs a sensitivity setting, so it can be set to ignore tiny axis readings, or ignore values smaller than X.
